Daniel Smith

Lawyer, Managing Partner

Daniel joined CARNEADES Legal in 2020. He is a German attorney-at-law (Rechtsanwalt) since 2013.

Daniel regularly advises shipyards and suppliers in the maritime and offshore wind industry as well as owners/shipowners in all areas of private (“maritime”) construction law. He can support clients in all project phases, i.e. in project preparations, contract negotiations, the handling of shipbuilding, repairs, refits/conversions and subcontractor contracts, as well as in post-contract management up to the delivery of the products to the customers, and in the enforcement of (warranty) performance claims, claims settlements and, if necessary, litigation.

In the offshore wind sector, he also specialises in converter platform contracts, claims settlements and the enforcement of claims.

Before joining CARNEADES Legal Daniel worked as in-house legal counsel (Syndikusrechtsanwalt) at a shipyard group in northern Germany and advised the management and the respective specialist departments of the companies on all contractual, corporate, compliance and construction law issues in the area of new construction, conversion and repair projects (superyachts, commercial and naval vessels) as well as on steel, hydraulic steel and bridge construction projects. Prior to this, for several years he worked at an international law firm specialising in maritime commercial law as lawyer in the finance and transaction team.
